Yes I would definitely do more carbs. Carbs are the most anabolic nutrient. If you ate nothing but carbs you would starve. But in combination with other nutrients it will allow your body to be at it's anabolic best and retain more nitrogen than a high fat high protein diet ever could. Proteins the brick,carbs are the morter,and fats are there to keep it all well lubricated.
The reason you feel gross is because carbs cause water retention. It's not a bad thing though. If you lower sodium it will be a lesser effect and as you lose body fat it become less noticable. If you increased carbs you would see a spike in body weight. But remember the scale does not really matter. It's the mirror and how you feel. Your only going to be eating 1200ish cals a day. That's a huge deficit. The best deficit is about 500 cals a day. Someone of your weight and activity level would be way higher than 1700. You cut too aggressive and your body starts to shut down, hold on to fat more stubborn, raise your appetite and cravings, cause an unhealthy relationship with food, and will atrophy muscles. No bueno.
