Gotta disagree with the last part. Saying Sir doesn’t make you subservient. “Sir put your hands behind your back you’re under arrest.” Obviously the person saying Sir still maintained their authority.
The only people I call Sir are authority figures like my VP and nice elderly men. There is a lot of power in your choice of vernacular.
